HAIKU

Shiver down my spine;
The leaves crunch beneath my feet;
The wait is too long.

THREE: Dialogue

"What's wrong Delphia?" Katherine asked.

She lifted her head, drying her eyes.

"It's nothing. I'm okay."

"It doesn't seem like you're okay."

"Well, I am."

"But it doesn't seem--"

"You're not going to leave until I tell you, are you?"

Katherine crossed her arms, smiled and said,

"Nope!"

Delphia closed her eyes and sighed.

"Everyone thinks I'm a freak."

"I don't!"

"That's because you don't know."

"Know what?"

"I'm psychic."

TWISTER

Elle accepted the drink from the handsome man at the party. But earlier, and with fewer drinks in her than most guests invited, she was out.

TWO: Memoirs of a Procrastinator

During the past unit, we learnt about memoirs so that we could write our own excerpt of a memoir. In doing so, we read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. I really enjoyed this memoir. I thought it was really interesting to be able to learn about Jeannette Walls' life and to be able to experience the events with her. Jeannette Walls has a very intriguing story and the way in which she tells it is what makes The Glass Castle so great. I think I was as interested as I was, because without fully relating myself to those specific events, I could somewhat connect myself with some of them at the same time. As bad as it may sound, Jeannette's family kind of made me think of mine. Not to claim that my family is anywhere near as "unique" as Jeannette's, but I'm just saying, my mother will leave a car if she has to. I find it to be quite refreshing that being a memoir based on her actual life, Jeannette was able to get a happy ending despite her unorthodox beginning.

Once we were writing our actual memoir, I didn't find it as difficult to write, compared to writing a story because we were simply recalling our personal experiences and making them more interesting. The hard part for me was deciding how to tie the different events together as everything in my memoir is true, however the order in which the events occurred are not. Another thing I found difficult was how to express everything in a way that would make it as interesting as possible since my life is nowhere near as eventful and exciting as Jeannette Walls’. Surprisingly, I did somewhat enjoy writing the memoir but I can’t say that I’m completely satisfied with my final product. As I was writing there were parts that I had thought of improving and certain things I had thought of adding, however I made the careless mistake of procrastinating, like I do, and not going back over it again to fix them. I am glad that we did those little exercises in class where we'd list 5 things and write about one, because otherwise I would have wasted so much time trying to think of what part of my life to write about. Overall, I enjoyed the memoir unit. It gave me a chance to think about not only my life but how drastically different someone else's could be without even realizing it.

ONE: I'm Definitely the next Jane Austen

I'm not very good at starting things off. Clearly, that's one of my weaknesses as a writer. Writing was never something I had ever considered doing and I'm not entirely sure who I am as a writer or if I'm any good. I'm hoping to figure this out, as I go along in the course.
In everything I've ever written, whether it be an answer to a question or a personal response, I never develop enough. For some odd reason, I can never fully explain something as clearly and as thorough as it should be. So you can imagine that I'm not very good with word limits.
I do enjoy reading. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I have had the time to sit down and read a book. At the moment I have a list of unfinished books which include: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Wuthering Heightsand Life of Pi. I've restarted Life of Pi twice, and I still haven't had the time to finish because when I read a novel, I prefer to read it continuously. As in, I will take it with me in the kitchen, in the bathroom, at the mall and at the grocery store.
I haven't really written many things, aside from essays and responses. I do not enjoy writing those. At all. I don't really mind writing poetry, if I have to. It does take me a while to think of a subject to write about, however, it takes me a while to do everything anyway. The last time I did really well on a writing assignment, was in grade eight. I wrote a story about a couple trying to buy some cheese at Metro who then ran into some trouble whilst trying to find the cheese. I named it based on my favourite Protest The Hero song at the time because yes, at one point in my life, I listened to metal music. It was called Sequoia Throne: Quest to Find the Missing Cheese. It was the most ridiculous thing I had ever written but it was probably also the best thing I had ever written. Hopefully, by the end of the class, I'll be able to progress from missing cheeses.
